Krampus is a popular legend in central Europe. Often described as a half goat, half demon monster who punishes misbehaving children at Christmas. Think of him as the complete opposite to Santa. Krampus is believed to have originated in Germany and his name derives from the German word ‘Krampen’ which means ‘claw’. He was also thought to have been part of pagan rituals for the winter solstice and he is supposedly the son of Hel, the Norse god of the underworld.
